Hello Friends,
My name is Lughaigh MacGiolla
Bhrighde. I've been a paramedic with
the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service
for the past ten years. I recently became
aware of the charity Playing for Life and
their work in Malawi.
Over 900,000 people in Malawi are living
with HIV and AIDS; Playing for Life
aims to help them with a mix of practical
help and challenges through sport,
focussed directly on HIV/AIDS issues.
This novel approach means that not only
are the physical needs of people met, but
also social needs. With a life expectancy
of only 36.5 years, this is something
we're aiming to both raise and enhance.
This is where you come in. On 18th
October 2006 I will travel to Malawi
with a group from Ireland to engage in
various projects. My specific role will
be in infection control and dealing with
and living with HIV/AIDS. Others will
be involved in building work, well
construction and sports coaching.
My aim is to raise £5,000 before I go
and I intend to do that by asking 500
friends to sponsor me £10 each. This
is a straightforward request, no strings
and no reward other than knowing you
have directly helped people less fortunate
than yourself.
